design process

As the busiest room in the house, we understand that a kitchen not only needs to be beautiful but also has to work really hard for you and your family.  We use our initial consultation to establish your 'wish list', how you use your kitchen, any problems you currently face, and your style.  The beauty of the simplicity of Shaker Kitchens, is their versatility.  There are endless ways to match your kitchen to you and your property.  Colour and materials are the obvious starting point for us, followed by the finer details such as the ironmongery and colour of drawer liners.  Then we can look into how many stools and high chairs can fit at the island; how best to store your vast selection of baking products and how to display your Global knives and favourite wines.

A kitchen is an investment that needs to stand the test of time so the design process is really key to us.

From here we will put together an estimate and some drawings for you which can then be tweaked until you are completely happy that every box has been ticked.

Sourcing materials

We only use the very best materials for your kitchen. After years of searching and sampling different materials, we have managed to source the highest grade of timbers, plywoods, paints, and hardware on the market. Materials that are so good that when used the right way, and used with care; they will last forever.

All our timbers are hand selected for their purpose:

  • Solid European oak for your drawers and racks
  • Super strong lacquered oak faced poplar plywood for your carcasses
  • Sustainable American Poplar hardwood for all the door and frame joinery

These are all paired with traditional techniques, mortice and tenons, dovetails, mouldings and care.

timeline

Once we have settled on your design, Daniel will set about selecting the timber to use for your kitchen and production will begin.  This is the stage that we welcome you to come and see how your project is progressing in the workshop.  Once works commence on your project, production usually takes four to six weeks.

After it has been built, your kitchen will be sprayed with primer in the colour you have chosen.  We then hand over to Oakcroft Carpentry and Construction who install all of our kitchens to the highest possible standard.  You can expect fitting to take around one week to complete.

Our fantastic and meticulous painter, Marcus, will come in soon after fitting, to apply two layers of paint by brush, providing you with a completely flawless finish.  This also takes around one week.

Please call to find out the current lead time.
